India Smartphone Market Declined by 10% in 2022 to 144 Million Units.
While there is an increasing premiumisation with growth in the mid & premium segments, the entry-level smartphones and feature-phones have seen a drastic YoY decline.
The ASP of smartphones was US$224, rising 18% YoY in 2022.
The mid-premium and premium price segments of US$300-500 and US$500+ grew 20% and 55%, respectively. In contrast, the sub-US$300 segment declined by 15%.
On a side note, feature phone shipments dropped by 18% YoY as well, standing at 57 million in 2022.
Together with the slight decline seen in Internet users, decline in entry-level smartphone shipments (generally the entry point for feature phone owners) indicate towards a saturation in the number of internet users in India.
